Chacaltaya
It was the highest ski slope in the world.
Overview
High in the Andes, lies a beautiful but mysterious ski resort, once famous for being the highest ski slope in the world. What used to be an attraction for ski enthusiasts, Chacaltaya is now a ghost town, as a result of the glacier melting in 2009. The only remaining evidence of this resort is the Club Andino de Bolivia, an abandoned refuge still run by its guardians Adolfo and Samuel Mendoza.
Today, the 5,421-meter ski resort is visited mainly by aspiring mountaineers looking to acclimatize before tackling the mountains.
