Illimani
The guardian of La Paz city
Overview
Illimani is the second highest mountain in Bolivia, it is immersed in music, art, painting and even becomes part of the coat of arms of the city of La Paz.
This beautiful mountain has many peaks that are permanently covered with snow; three of them exceed 6000 m and the highest one reaches 6,438 m.a.s.l. and is considered an “Achachila” protective spirit.
This mountain is reserved for determined mountain conquerors, as it is a technical and very demanding climb.

D E T A I L S
Day 1.
LA PAZ – PINAYA – BASE CAMP.
Departure from La Paz by private vehicle to the small village of Pinaya which is the entrance to the base camp of Illimani and where we will set up our camp.
Day 2.
BASE CAMP – CONDOR’S NEST HIGH CAMP.
Five hour hike mainly over rocks to the high camp “Nido del Condor” (5.550 m. a.s.l.), where we spend the night.
Day 3.
HIGH CAMP – ILLIMANI SUMMIT – BASE CAMP.
Early departure over glacier terrain to the summit Pico Sur del Illimani (6.438 m.a.s.l.). Then we return to high camp and continue to base camp.
Day 4.
BASE CAMP – LA PAZ.
Return to La Paz.
